About Us

When it comes to quality grass and clover seed mixtures Sinclair McGill is one of the best-known brands in the UK. Our belief that a high yield of good quality grass can only be achieved if you sow a well-designed mixture at the outset has been the driving force behind the success of our leys. We continue to field test all the grasses that go into each of our mixtures and we regularly update the formulations to take account of newer genetic material emerging from the plant-breeding pipeline.

We also ensure that livestock farmers can maximise the potential value of the mixtures we supply by taking advantage of new technology. For example, we have introduced two top class seed treatments for our grass seed and more recently we have launches the concept of pelleted clover seed. Both these innovations are designed to boost the percentage establishment of the grass and clover varieties that you drill. At the end of the day this means more, and better quality forage whether it is grazed or conserved. The red clover trial work we have been doing for several years on a commercial farm in Devon is also set to open up new possibilities for this often underrated but highly flexible, nitrogen-fixing legume.

Although good grass should be the foundation of your forage cropping plans it is also important to bear in mind the considerable role that other crops can play. For example, forage maize and fodder beet are both capable of delivering big tonnages of feed for use over the winter months. Both these crops are in the ground for a full season but if you need a faster growing solution then we can supply that as well – in the form of a range of fast establishing ‘catch crops’ like stubble turnips, forage rye and forage peas.

On top of this we also market grass seed for amenity use; we have a comprehensive portfolio of crops to meet the current requirements for ‘environmentally friendly’ areas on the farm; and if you are looking for gamecover mixtures we have a range of purpose-designed options which are second to none.

All our seeds are supplied via a network of authorised distributors/stockists and their ‘local’ knowledge will be invaluable to you because their technical staff will be able to recommend crops/varieties which will be ideally suited to your individual location and farming system.
