The trial was sown in the autumn of 2001 and then harvested over 3 years, with additional winter grazing by sheep, before being ploughed in the spring of 2005.

The most consistent performance over all three harvest years and all harvests was achieved by one of the experimental clover blends which includes Maro. The tetraploid variety Maro has a high leaf to stem ratio which encourages the production of forage with a high palatablilty. This is now marketed as our Red Admiral red clover blend.
