Slot Seeding

Slot Seeding Mixtures

Livestock farmers are coming under increasing pressure to make more effective use of their grassland which will certainly involve, at some stage, a regular reseeding programme.

However, in a number of cases farmers are unable to plough. This might be due to the physiological makeup of the field (surface rocks or boggy conditions) or maybe the difficulty in taking land out of production to facilitate a full reseed.

In these instances farmers should consider improving their existing pastures by means of renovation. There are several methods of renovation available to farmers and your local Sinclair McGill specialist can advise, but we are in no doubt that the best results are achieved with specialist slot seeding drills such as the Aitchison Seedmatic.

Choice of mixtures is equally important as newly sown seeds are expected to establish amidst competition from the existing sward which may include aggressive weed grasses. Consequently our specialist mixtures consist of very competitive varieties with proven early vigour. Seed rates will vary according to the level and condition of the existing sward.

We have recently published a new Guide to Pasture Renovation. Please email us and we will send you a copy.
